Reconnecting a disconnected Instagram account
Instagram connections expire or break for several reasons. Here's how to fix it.
Why does Instagram disconnect?
- •You changed your Instagram or Facebook password
- •You revoked Zestly's access in Instagram settings
- •Instagram revoked access due to inactivity (after 60 days with no API activity)
- •You changed which Facebook Page is linked to your Instagram
- •Meta updated their API permissions (this happens occasionally)
How to reconnect
- •Go to Social Accounts in your Zestly sidebar
- •Find the Instagram account showing a red warning icon
- •Click Reconnect
- •You'll be redirected to Facebook's authorisation screen
- •Log in to Facebook (use the account that is an admin of the Facebook Page linked to your Instagram)
- •Click Continue as [Name] and then Allow
- •Select the correct Facebook Page and Instagram account
If the reconnection is successful, the red warning icon will disappear and the account will show as Active.
If reconnection doesn't work
Check your Facebook Page permissions:
- •Go to Facebook, navigate to your Page
- •Click Settings → Page Roles
- •Confirm your personal account is listed as an Admin (not just Editor)
Check your Instagram account type:
- •Go to Instagram → Settings → Account
- •Your account must be a Business or Creator account. Personal accounts cannot connect to Zestly.
- •If it's personal, tap Switch to Professional Account
Check the Facebook–Instagram link:
- •Go to Instagram → Settings → Account → Linked Accounts
- •Make sure your Facebook Page is linked
Try disconnecting fully and reconnecting:
- •On Facebook, go to Settings → Security → Business Integrations
- •Find Zestly and click Remove
- •Return to Zestly and reconnect from scratch
If none of these work, email hello@zestly.com.au with your Instagram handle and we'll investigate directly.
